Coreless Brushless DC Motors
are synchronous, high-powered motors powered by drivers. They are quiet, lightweight, and handle torque at various speeds and positions, high rotating speeds and maximum operating life spans, making them ideal for continuously running and high-power applications.
 
Coreless Brush DC Motors
  Coreless brushed dc motors runs up to about 12900rpm, which have rotor windings wound in a honeycomb form to create a self-supporting cylinder. This eliminates the mass and inertia of a rotating rotor, making rapid acceleration and deceleration possible.

Coreless DC Motors

   A DC coreless motor does not contain a laminated iron core in the rotor, while a traditional brushed DC electric motor contains an iron-made inner core.

Coreless brushed motor
   Brushed coreless motor does not have an iron core, and consists of a cup-shaped core as rotor and a permanent magnet inside the rotor as stator. Brushed coreless motor features the following: Coreless motor features the following:

Features

1. Cup-shaped rotor coil is very light weight and has a small moment of inertia, allowing the motor to start and stop quickly.

2. Because there is no cogging due to stator-rotor positioning, it features smooth rotation, low noise and low vibration.

3. Motor can be made in compact sizes because it is made only of rare earth magnet, coil and rotor. For the reasons mentioned above, our brushed coreless motor is used in many applications that require high precision, high speed response, as well as compactness and high efficiency.

Issues & Challenges in brushed Motor

1. The primary factors affecting the lifespan of brushed motors are abrasion due to rotational contact of the brush and commutator, and electric corrosion during polarity switching.

2. While precious metal contact material minimizes the electric corrosion, physical abrasion remains an issue.

3. Changing the brush material to carbon-based can prevent the mechanical wearing, but at the same time, this can increase electric spark noise.

In general, brushed motors are not suitable for power motors because they can't accept large flow of electric current. Uniqualis presents brushed coreless motors that address these issues equally.

   In our brushless motor, we removed the mechanical contacts such as brushes and commutators used in conventional brushed motors, and applied an electric signal to take their place. The brushless motor requires an electric circuit board because there is no commutator. This motor (circuit board) has two types, one with a magnetic sensor, and the other with no sensor. The one with the magnetic sensor detects its position via the sensor, and the other detects the rotor magnet position via back-EMF. Brushless motor's features are as follows:
 

Features

1. Stator coil is located outside in inner rotor type brushless motor. Therefore, it is good in heat dissipation. Because there are no contacts (brush/commutator), large current can be input to answer to high power needs.

2. No mechanical noise and no electric noise for switching current(no brush and no commutator)

3. Long life and high reliability (due to no-contact design)

In Uniqualis' brushless motor, stator is a slot-less core with cup-shaped coil, and rotor is the magnet inside. Therefore, magnetic force is even regardless of coil/magnet position, and motor rotation is free of cogging.

1. As brushless motors have no mechanical contacts for polarity switching, they have high power and long lifespan. However, due to the rotating magnet core, the inertia is much larger than that of coreless brushed motor and the response time slower.

RC servo motor pursued "high speed response" and "high output" with evolution of batteries.

1. In RC servo applications, the mechanical time constant (the time it takes the servo to reach top speed from zero) is one of the most important specifications. Hence coreless motor, with its basket coiled rotor and faster response time, has conventionally been chosen over iron cored motor.

2. RC servos require quick, repetitive left and right motion in a 60 degree angle, which means the motor is always running at the maximum current. This causes the coil to heat up and remain hot for the entire duration of use, limiting the lifespan.

As such, RC servo is considered one of the hardest applications for DC brushed motors.
